Story
On 10th July 2010 together with 5 friends, I am attempting to climb 5,895m to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes ever to break through the Earth's crust with its snow-capped summit rising high above the dusty plains of Tanzania (click on photos). Our 6 day trek takes us up the less-trodden Machame route; we will pass through thick forest, moorland and scree on route to the highest point, Uhuru Peak. This is a challenging trek at altitude, climbing one of the most impressive and well-known mountains in the world.
My chosen charity is the Heaton-Ellis Trust which has been set up to fund essential research into finding a cure for Motor Neurone Disease. MND is a cruel and debilitating disease which has caused the death of many people including my mother-in-law and other close friends. The Trust's aim is to raise £1 million to fund the purchase of a gene analyzing machine and ensure its effective operation for a three year period. All the funds raised are directed to Kings College in London to enable the research team to further their aims.
Every £1 that donors provide to the Heaton-Ellis Trust, for generic research into MND, is matched by £3 from the MND Association and its funding partners, the ALS Association and the Medical Research Council. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Please donate now...............thank you.
