You might think that swimming a distance in the open water is the kind of exercise reserved for alpha super beings, entering the latest ironman event.

Let's hope for my sake that this isn't true!

Until this year I had swum no further than 800m, back when I was learning. I will be swimming breastroke and aim to complete the event in around 50 minutes.
