In October 2014, as a very happy single, I met the most amazing girl who quite unexpectedly swept me off my feet! She was sadly widowed in 2013 after her husband Mark Lee was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer and then died within a few short weeks, leaving Pherenice a widow at 39, with two young boys. Mark was just 43 when he passed away, and Pherenice is running 43 events in his memory, one for each year of his life. The Great North Run is in the same part of the country that Pherenice and Mark met, so running this race there will hold special significance for her, and I will be there by her side to support her, as I hope to be on many of the other 42 races!
