Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is David Henry, I served over  10 years in the British Armed Forces, firstly with the 2ND Batallion The Light Infantry and then in February 2007 we amalgamated into the 3rd Batallion the Rifles.  I left the Forces just over a year ago now but the Regiment will always remain close to my heart with many of my friends still serving with the regiment.  In October 2009 the Batallion deployed to Afghanistan to begin a 6 month tour of duty in the most unimaginable environment on the planet.   Since deploying the Batallion have suffered a massive blow with a high amount of casualties including 17 Soldiers killed in action and many have suffered life changing injuries including the loss of limbs.  These Soldiers have paid the ultimate sacrifice for this country and we are hugely in their debt for their extreme Heroism.

One of the Soldiers killed was one of my best mates Cpl Lee Brownson, pictured above with his amazing wife Leeanne and his two daughters, Gina-Lee 10 and Morgan 4.  As well as being an outstanding Soldier, Lee was a devoted father and a loving husband, a total family man who did everything for his family.  He really was the nicest man you could ever meet and would always have been there to support me if i needed it.  He was killed in action on the 15th Jan 2010, his loss has dented so many peoples lives and he will be sorely missed by his family, friends and his comrades.

As a tribute to Lee I will be running in the Brighton marathon on the 18th April 2010 at Brighton and Hove at 0900hrs.  I will be running for the Help for Heroes Charity and I aim to raise as much money as possible so that the lives of the injured Soldiers can be changed, the money will go towards better equipment and re-habilitation centres across the UK.  Although i will be running in memory of Lee i want to pay tribute to the other Soldiers Killed in Action in Afghanistan, Sjt Stevie Campbell, Sjt Phillip Scott, Cpl Richard Green, Cpl Stephen Thompson, LCpl David Kirkness, LCpl Chris Roney, LCpl Daniel Cooper, LCpl Tom Keogh, Rfn James Brown, Rfn Luke Farmer, Rfn Peter Aldridge, Rfn Carlo Apolis, Rfn Jonathon Allot, Rfn Liam Maughan, Rfn Daniel Holkham, Rfn Mark Turner.  Also never forgetting the lives that were lost during the Iraq conflict, Cpl Rodney Wilson, LCpl Taff Thomas and Pte Michael Tench, Private Tench was the last Private Soldier to be killed from the 2nd Batallion The Light Infantry.

Too many people pay lip service to the British Armed Forces and the enormous amounts of courage these Soldiers have, they prefer to walk around in their own little bubble where the most dangerous thing they have to do is get the bus to work.  Its time to change that attitude.
