Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page in memory of my brother Jim.
Jim was a fantastic big brother, he was kind and giving and always ready to help whenever needed. A truly great bloke. He was a very big and important part of our family and we will miss him so very much. His memory will never fade though, I have these to treasure always. What a lucky girl I was to have such an awesome brother.
Jim battled cancer for three and a half years. Sadly he lost his battle in October 2013. He fought with everything he had and never gave up right to the very end. His strengh and courgage during this time will always be an inspiration to me and a reminder that life is short and we should grasp it with both hands. None of us know what lies ahead, we need to live for the moment, do things we love with the people we love, tell our family and friends how much we love them.
Jim was a very active man. His hobbies included fishing, running, cycling, banger racing, re-building cars oh and full doofer control (in case your not from Scotland a 'doofer' is a TV remote control).
Jim took part in 61 organised running events, pretty amazing. When I was home in June and we were celebrating his 65th birthday I was amazed to see all of his medals he had collected over the years all laid out on his bed, I was truly was blown away at the collection. There is a picture on this page of these.
When he came to visit me in Sydney he loved to run the coastal track from my house to Coogee and back. He would come back covered with sweat but with a big smile on his face, he just loved it. At the time I thought he was a bit crazy !!
Jim always encourged me to get out and get running, it never seemed to come naturally to me but I kept on plodding along. Then in 2013 I decided to run my first half marathon. My first call was to Jim, I knew he would tell me I could do it and sure enough he was there with training programs and weekly progress checks.
So now I'm running my first full marathon. I told Jim I would so here I am. It feels right that I run the Edinburgh one as Jim ran that one many times. I know he will be there with me on the day and he will get me though the next 18 weeks of training, I think of him each time I run that coastal track that he so loved.
I decided to run for MacMillan Cancer Support as they give much needed support to patients and family at a time when things seem so hopeless. Caring for a loved one through this really terrible time takes its toll and any help and support is greatly appreciated.
One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way. MacMillan offer that support completely free of change but rely on donations. You can read more about their service at:

Thanks for your time and please give what you can, every donation counts.
The final word needs to be the words of wisdom from my bro
