My story
The Pooleys Dawn to Dusk is aimed to encourage the most interesting employment of a Flying Machine within the limits of competent airmanship and to demonstrate the capabilities of pilot and machine in a day's flying, during the hours between Dawn to Dusk in terms of furthering some original and praiseworthy objective.
Help for Heroes raises money to support members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of their country. They ask supporters to “do their bit” to show these extraordinary young men and women that they are cared for by us. Over a million people have responded to date and millions of pounds have been raised to buy much needed services that will aid their recovery.
Sky Watch Civil Air Patrol (SWCAP) provides an additional air resource for the voluntary and professional emergency services. Pilots donate their time and aircraft free of charge, providing simple air observation and search capacity to supplement the resources of the emergency services, Coastguard, some police forces, mountain rescue, etc. For example SWCAP have found missing persons for mountain rescue teams, located downed aircraft for Air Traffic, called in fires in remote locations, found missing parts from a crashed aircraft for Air Accident Investigation, carried out search safety patrols for Coastguard, etc.
Julian Midder, a pilot based with No 17 (Wiltshire) unit, will attempt to fly solo into every Sky Watch unit in Britain between 04.00 and 22.00 hrs in late June 2010. Starting in Wiltshire he will visit 7 airfields and finish in Scotland.
Julian will be flying an Aviasud Mistral, a small lightweight two seat aircraft, ideally suited to the slow flying observation work of Sky Watch. He will be inviting every unit he visits to help raise money for Help for Heroes and will be collecting their contributions as he visits their airfield on the day of the flight.
