Story
In the past I have given myself the personal challenge of giving up chocolate for Lent and have managed to succeed in this a couple of times. This year, however, I have decided to give myself the unreasonable challenge of giving up sweet foods for Lent. I love cake (one of my favourite things about going to the continent is that hotels provide cake for breakfast). I love pudding. I love sweets (pick n mix is the best thing about the cinema). I love Vimto. I love fizzy drinks. In general, I bloomin' love sugar! I'm quite terrified about the state I will be in without it.
So why would I choose to give these things up for Lent? Because I wanted to give up something that would show people how serious I am about raising awareness of a cancer that few people know exists and (hopefully!) some dosh for an amazing charity that has been an incredible support to my fantastic aunt Debs and her family since she was diagnosed with this illness. Myeloma is a cancer airisng from the plasma cells in the bone marrow- it is difficult to diagnose and generally not known about in society.
To hear more about Debs' story and to learn a bit about Myeloma and how it has affected her this is her blog: http://debsjourneywithmyeloma.wordpress.com
and this is the wonderful charity I am raising money for: http://www.myeloma.org.uk/information/what-is-myeloma/
Please consider donating to this very worthy cause if you are able to.
Thank you!
