I am taking part in Africa - Trek the Great Rift Valley Challenge in aid of The Blue Cross - Britain's Pet Charity.
My challenge is to trek approximately 60 miles over 6 consecutive days. I will start my challenge in the foothills of 8500ft Mount Longido, a sacred Maasai Mountain. My biggest challenge will be to climb the volcano Kitumbeine where I will visit remote Maasai settlements.
The reason I am doing it, apart from being a life changing experience, is to raise important funds to support the vital work of The Blue Cross. Through their network of adoption centres they rehome more than 6000 unwanted and abandoned animals a year. Their three equine centres take in and care for horses and ponies with health or behavoural problems and/or whose owners can no longer cope.
I appreciate there are many people in the world that require our support and I try my best to do what I can, as I am sure we all do. But more often than not, people forget the animals and the suffering they endure through no fault of their own.
If you have a pet, think how it would feel if they were no longer there. Our pets are an extension to our family and for some are the only companion they have. They provide so much love and comfort and unlike us, they cannot ask for help. They rely solely on our love and support. Isn't it time that we gave it?
I was fortunate enough to visit The Blue Cross Hospital in Victoria and the work that they do is absolutely amazing. But they cannot do any of it without our help. This charity is truly one that is close to my heart and I want to do all that I can for them. So, PLEEEEEEEASE donate whatever you can to help me reach my target.
