My story

Updated 6th July 2011

We completed our marathon cycle, 1020 miles, it certainly was a huge challenge, the hardest thing I have ever done.  Still aching and tired two weeks later!!!  What's next.....retirement, I think....!!!!!

Many thanks for all your support.  Please see our blog with all the details of the trip

Six days to go until the big ride, feeling nervous.  Have started packing, it is not easy, carrying all our own luggage, no room for my straighters, not sure how I will manage without them!

Seen by hand specialist today he recommended surgery for the tendonitis....., what, I can't believe it......I think a good rest after the bike ride and maybe a steroid injection or two will easily do the trick!!!!!!

It's all looking good I've got my new bike, it is absolutely amazing, I feel like I am flying.....well at least for  the first 20 miles.  It covers so much ground with such little effort, might be something to do with the secret engine i've had installed:-)

My x-ray was all clear no broken bones, although it certainly felt like it.  It was a case of chronic tendonitis, which eventually responded to physio, acupuncture, hot and cold compresses and lots and lots of rest.

Three weeks to go all we have left to do is book our accomadoation from Scotland to John O' Groats and pack our bags, that is going to be so hard.   Will be travelling light as we are carrying our own luggage but need to be prepared for all weathers and going out in the evening.

Collecting my new bike this weekend. Tendonitis hasn't improved, awaiting results of x-ray and referral to orthopeadic surgeron.... doesn't sound too good, hope it's not too serious. Only four weeks til land's end to John O'Groats ride so I've got to be fit...

Hiya

Thanks for visiting my webpage! In continuation of my fund raising for Bosom Pals who support the Breast Unit at Southend Hospital, last year we raised £9000,   I am onto another challenge, I will be cycling 1100 miles from Land’s End to John O’ Groats on 10 June 2011 over a 14 day period. I will be undertaking this mammoth adventure with my hubby Paulie and my two very good friends Jayne Hayward and Joe Rood.  Our training is somewhat behind, 3 months to be precise, but at least we have started.  Our longest cycle so far is only 44 miles, we still a long way to go, I only hope that we can make it.  Unfortunately I have developed repetitive strain injury of my right thumb, caused by constant changes of gear, on my bike not my wardrobe, typical.  I have ordered my new bike, a black Condore with pink handlebars!  Wish us well I think we are going to need it.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the UK. One in nine women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lifetime and men can get breast cancer.

To give patients the best possible chance of surviving breast cancer Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation has joined forces with Bosom Pals patient support group to buy two new digital mammography machines for women of South Essex. Despite these major new developments the Appeal still needs to raise more money for a digital faxitron, a piece of equipment that gives an instant and very accurate picture whilst a lumpectomy (under general anaesthetic), is being carried out. Having the new screening equipment will allow Southend University Hospital improve cancer detection rates.

So if you are able to please make a donation, as together they will all make a difference and you can help wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, nieces and friends.

Donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with Just Giving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Many thanks for your kind generosity.

Fondest regards

Deb.
