Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I can't remember a time when I didn't love horses, I have had them in all shapes, sizes and colours and they have all been part of my family, my life and very spoilt. Unfortunately, not all animals are blessed with this luck. Having discovered the fantastic work that Brooke do across the world to help animals much less fortunate, I felt that I had to do something to help. By chance I found out about this amazing opportunity and immediately signed up.

I am planning on going to India in February 2012 to take up a 10 day riding challenge through Rajasthan, I'm hoping that it will be an incredible journey, not just because of my itchy feet and taste for adventure but knowing that all the money raised for Brooke, will make a lasting difference to the lives of working horses and donkeys, as well as the people who depend on them to earn a living. Anything I suffer or have to endure along the way will be nothing compared to what these poor animals go through every day to provide their owners with a little money to eat. I will be riding approximately 7 hours a day through all sorts of terrain and camping at different locations each evening under the stars (or canvas if I'm lucky). Anyone who knows me will agree that whilst I will be happy to be astride my (hopefully) trusty steed I don't do camping in any shape or form and I definitely don't do creepy crawlies when I am sleeping. (Perhaps I will be so tired I won't notice?). So, although I know that it isn't a great moment in time to be asking people for money, I hope that you will be able to find that loose change down the back of the sofa and donate knowing that you will be making a difference. We all lead such privileged lives in comparison that its so easy to forget the suffering elsewhere. Your money could provide as follows:-

£17.00 could pay for the medicine vets need to treat 3 animals suffering with colic.

£31.00 could provide vaccinations for 43 horses or donkeys, giving them immunity from tetanus for up to 2 years.

£53.00 could pay for three community training sessions, in which owners learn how to prevent and spot early signs of illness in their animals.

£82.00 can keep a mobile vet team on the road for a week, and provide the supplies and equipment to tackle and prevent outbreaks of disease.

Phew! thats it for now, a massive thank you is sent your way.

I will be able to let you know how it went so watch this space.

Debbie x

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
