Story
Hi ya
As most of you know, my daughter Hannah was diagnosed with Juvenile Battens Disease in 2006.
Hannah was 9 years old at the time, and until 6 months previously, she was perfectly "normal". She was in mainstream school, reading, writing, and enjoying ballet and stage lessons. Nothing could have prepared me for that dreadful news when she started to lose her sight and I want to thank my wonderful family and friends who are still helping me through the bad times.
Hannah is now 12 years old - and coping extremely well with blindness, speech problems and epilepsy. Unfortunately the outlook for children with Juvenile Battens is not good. Its a degenerative brain condition which means the children lose the ability to see, talk and walk, ending up bedridden until death occurs at an age when they should be starting a life for themselves.
The Batten Disease Family Association is there for advice and support to anyone having to cope with this awful illness and provide much needed funds for research.
Thats why I've decided to run in the British 10K London Race on Sunday 11th July to raise as much as I can for the BDFA. I'm running with my partner, Nick Marshall, my brother, Mark Mack and brother-in-law, Paul Newberry. The training plan I've devised for myself is going extremely well - I eat and drink as much as I like and turn the extra fat to muscle nearer the time ! Either that or I buy a pair of heeleys and strap myself to one of the lads on the day !
My target is to raise £250 but with your help, I'd love to totally smash that amount ! Any donation would be greatly appreciated.
I'll keep you updated on my training - I'm off to enjoy a big bar of galaxy and a large glass of wine.
Thanks
Debbie
