From week 16 of my pregnancy, twin to twin transfusion syndrome was suspected. I was monitored twice weekly from week 22 knowing ( gambling) that at any time the boys could be born or stillborn. I was determined to make it to 30 weeks at which point the consultant said he'd run out of courage and they had to be delivered.
I sat on the operating table for nearly two hours before the 16 people in the theatre said that they were ready for these babies to be born - there was a neo natal nurse, a paedatrician and a midwife for each of them and the unit had to be ready to receive them
Zach and Caelan were born one minute apart on the 24/9/10 weighing 3lb 3 oz and 2lb 2 oz respectively and spent the next 2 1/2 weeks in incubators in the Intensive Care Neo Natal unit at St Georges before being transferred to Epsom Special Care Unit for a further 5 1/2 weeks - 60 days in total.
Without the care and dedication and expertise that were given unconditionally at St Georges , my little miracles would not be here, thriving, healthy and smiling.
Zach Kiran Peter ( Kiran is a sanskrit name meaning ray of light or sunbeam)
Caelan Luke Darcy ( Caelan is Scottish and means child, Luke is the patron saint of doctors )
