Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for Martineau Gardens.
I've been volunteering at Martineau on Friday mornings for about 9 months now - even through the winter! - and I love it. There's a real mixture of people from different backgrounds, and we all work together to keep the gardens looking good and the fruit and veg growing. It's been a great way for me to meet different people and feel like I'm doing something useful.
Martineau is a community garden and charity in Birmingham. There are two and half acres of land which include woodland, beehives, a pond, organic fruit and veg plots, an orchard, more formal gardens, a hothouse, children's play area, wildlife meadow and bird hide.
The gardens are maintained primarily by volunteers. Because Martineau offers a therapeutic horticulture service, some volunteers have mental health issues, are recovering from addictions, have learning disabilities, physical disabilities or autism / autistic spectrum disorders. Some volunteers are people who want to do 'something different' on their day off, or people getting work experience if they've been unemployed for a while.
If you've never visited, pop down and the gardens - entry is free, and they're open 10-4pm Monday to Sat (closed public holidays).
