The Kianh Foundation, was set up in 2001 by a close friend of ours. It provides health and education to disabled children in . Before the charity was set up the disabled children had no health care, education or love. They lay on plastic sheets on metal beds with buckets underneath. Their day to day existence resembled the terrible scenes that are familiar to us all from the images in the press of Romanian orphanages. The able bodied children at the orphanage had no idea that the disabled children were even there.
We were lucky enough to visit in 2006 and were astounded by what the charity had achieved. To name just a few: doctors visiting from overseas to tend to the children’s health care needs, regular physiotherapy and education, attention to nutritional needs, medication, proper nappies and a washing machine to clean them. Last but by no means least, a cuddle and lots of love.
This charity is very important to us. Our children have everything they need and more. The children in do not. The next goal for the Foundation is to set up a locally based, community service so that parents are not forced to abandon their disabled children and can keep them within their families, whilst still going out to work to support themselves.
