Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising money for The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Norwich. Its my way of giving back and showing my appreciation for all the hard work they do within that department. My daughter Leila-mai was born on 21st July 2006, her due date was the 18th September, so she was 9 weeks premature, weighing at just 2Ib9oz. She was so tiny and extremely vulnerable and as a parent I felt so helpless but with the support of the staff, days went by and after 6 weeks she was allowed to come home, weighing then at 4Ib 6oz. Without NICU, I would have lost my daughter and so many other parents daily are going through the same torture.

The award-winning Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is a highly specialist unit looking after the needs of premature and critically ill babies.

The NICU is one of only three specialist neonatal units in the East of England. NICU Norwich is one of the busiest in the region and the staff look after more than 850 babies a year. Norwich NICU currently has a total of 28 cots. Demand for specialist care for premature or critically ill babies is rising and the numbers of babies from Norfolk and neighbouring counties using Norwich NICU service is going up.

They are launching a public appeal to expand their NICU with four more cots for babies who need intensive therapy or high dependency care. We aim to raise £500,000 to fund the building work and equip the four new cots. With your help we aim to get the four new cots up and running by autumn 2011. Please support our Cots for Tots appeal.

I will be raising money by taking up 'The Three Peaks Challenge'. The challenge is to climb, and travel between, the tallest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales. The Three Peaks are:

Ben Nevis - Scotland: 1344 metres
Scafell Pike - England: 978 metres
Snowdon - Wales: 1085 metres

The distance walked is around 25 miles, the height climbed is around 10,000 feet, and the distance to be covered between the mountains is some 450 miles. So wish me luck!!!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
