Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Stuart & Matthew Denyer aim to complete a 700 mile bike ride in a week in October that follows the route their Grandfather was forced to march as a Prisoner of War at the end of WWII (from southern Poland, over the mountains of the Czech Republic and into Germany, finishing close to Munich), a march that was so extreme that many died as a result of starvation, exhaustion and the extreme cold and as a result became known as the ‘Death March’.  The Red Cross and their food parcels were invaluable not only for providing prisoners with the required calories to survive the years of incarceration and hard labour in the POW camps but also for their forced march back to Germany at the end of the war, providing food when they were liberated and on their repatriation back to the UK.
