HELP THE SURGEONS AT BASINGSTOKE SAVE MORE PATIENTS LIVES FROM LIVER CANCER

Mr Myrddin (Merv) Rees, Consultant at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, commenced pioneering the practice of liver resection when the medical profession believed it could not be done.  Subsequently, Mr Tim John and Miss Fenella Welsh have been appointed and have enhanced the service in many different ways.  They are approaching the 2000^th liver resection and are acknowledged as leading world experts.  Their attitude has always been ‘We will never give up without a fight’.  However, many more patients could be successfully treated if their referral to the team for evaluation and treatment is within days rather than the weeks or months it is now.    They have identified a system which, if installed, would provide instant transfer of information from the doctor to the team at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.  The system will require an investment of £60,000.

I had liver cancer and Mr Rees needed to removed nearly 70% of my liver and, although it was a long recovery, I am now fit and well.  My wife, children and grandchildren are so very indebted to the Basingstoke Liver Team.  They now need our help to raise the £60,000.
