Story

My father in law, Derrick, was devastated when his wife Alma was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy in 1997, particularly when that diagnosis came with an average life expectancy of only seven years. As Alma's illness progressed, Derrick found himself having to take on the role of carer and his own health began to suffer.

Alma is still with us fourteen years later and one of the longest known surviving patients with PSP, but sadly Derrick lost his fight with his own health issues and passed away on Monday 3rd October 2011. He was able to return home and spend his last week with family by his side.

He celebrated his 80th birthday in June this year and we know that he will be deeply missed by the many, many lives he touched in those 80 years.

Rest in peace my dear.

----

We know that Derrick would have done anything to cure, halt or slow down Alma's illness which is why we have set up this donation page in his memory.

If you feel inclined to make a donation, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, not just for ourselves, but for the future generations who can benefit from the research, support and care offered by the PSP Association.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

On behalf of the whole Waterworth family - we thank you.

Glenda Waterworth
