Story
Thank you for taking your time to visit my page and support :)
In this Arctic challenge, 100 of us would be trekking 100km over 5 days to raise funds for WaterAid.
The Cause: The HSBC Water Programme is a 8-year, USD 150million commitment to work with international charities and local project partners for building healthy communities and developing national economies. For this Arctic Challenge, we aim to raise a collective target of 500k for WaterAid, whereby the fund will be used to transform the live of the poorest and most marginalised people by improving access to safe, clean water, decent toilets, as well as good hygiene and sanitation. While we tend to take such basic necessities for granted, we do not realise how having these enable communities to thrive: Women and men get to earn a living, and children will be healthier, get the chance to go to school and grow up to become adults.
*The fund raised will be used solely to support the cause. It will NOT be used to sponsor my travel expense (flights, accommodation, treks, etc), as these are self-funded
The Challenge: The Greenland Arctic Challenge is graded as “tough”, due to the terrain, climate and that the area is mainly untouched by human civilization. As the place is very remote, we will first need to fly in via a helicopter to the start point of the trek. Then, over the these 5 days, we would be trekking 7 - 9 hours a day across multiple terrains such as tundra and glaciers, up to a max elevation of 1,500 feet above sea water. As there would be no support vehicles to help carry the load, we would have to carry our own equipments of 15 kgs as well as setting up our tents, and camp in cold conditions.
Misc: In addition to fund raising, I would also like to create awareness of our impact to the environment, and how we can do something about it.
i) Waterfootprint: While we can easily see and control how much we use water in our daily activities (shower, laundry, etc), there are more than that. We should also be more aware of our waterfootprint from our consumption of goods. E.g it takes 130 litres of water to produce 1 cup of coffee, from the coffee farm to the coffee we drink .

ii) Use of plastics: We all know how bad plastics are, but what can we do to make this better? Besides reduction plastic usage, I believe we should find more ways to recycle plastic. E.g Macrebur,
a UK company makes road out of plastic - how cool is that! No whales or marine life needs to suffer due to indigestion from the all plastic it accidentally swallow...
