Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2006 my group of friends lost one of our closest, Christy, aged 23, to rare strains of cerebral malaria whilst travelling throughout Asia. Christy's parents and our wide group of friends have turned the experience into something positive by establishing the 'Christy Gallagher Memorial Malaria Fund' with Children in Crossfire to help prevent the deadly disease from claiming the lives of some of the world's poorest and most vulnerable children. Donations made to the 'malaria fund' are used by Children in Crossfire in 3 regions of Tanzania to distribute mosquito nets to vulnerable families with children 5 years of age and under; and also to run awareness raising community workshops about the prevention and treatment of malaria.

As part of the continuing fundraising efforts I am taking part in the Atacama Crossing 2012. This is a self-supported, multi-stage, 250km ultramarathon event that takes place across the Atacama desert in Chile.

Any donations made in support of the 'Malaria fund' will be greatly appreciated and make a big difference to the small communities that benefit.
