Story
Well, I did it!
It was a fantastic event from start to finish. It was an early start too - we were up at 4.15am and riding to the Olympic Park by 5am.
After a bit of hanging around I hit the road at 6.54 and crossed the finish line on the Mall 5 hours, 50 minutes and 58 seconds later. Riding across London and through Surrey on completely closed roads was a great experience - though we did all seem to keep to the left hand side anyway!
Box Hill and Leith Hill were far less intimidating that they were made out to be. Northern riders would have been most unimpressed! Once I knew I was going to make it to the finish, having taken care not to start too fast, I gave it the berries and flew back into London. I know sportives are not races, but...
The reception throughout was sensational, from people in their front gardens to the masses in the Mall all cheering and yelling - a performance-enhancing sound wave.
As you can see I exceeded the target, and there are still a few donations heading my way. If I can get my company match-funding agreed it will be a good day's work.
Thanks to everyone for their support. Knowing that there were people out there rooting for me was a huge motivation.
Thank you.
