Story
On January 3rd 2011 I took my first and only horn lesson as part of the 2011 Grade-one-a-thon having never previously blown down such a thing. After 8 weeks of hard practise, I'm delighted to have passed with a distinction. I'm resting my slightly sore lips while I ponder whether to carry on in the brass world.
These videos record my progress:

What did I put myself through this? In mid 2010, my friend and fellow musician Guy Llewellyn suffered a dreadful accident that left him paralysed from the waist down. For years I have enjoyed Guy’s horn playing from across the concert platform and it was terrible to think that he might not perform again. Thankfully, by November he took to the stage again, which seemed almost miraculous to me. I know from talking to him that his rapid rehabilitation wouldn’t have happened without the support of the Spinal Injuries Association. So like many other Cambridge musicians, I signed up to take part in the Grade-one-a-thon 2011 to raise as much possible for this good cause. I do hope you will feel able to sponsor me and help me achieve my goal.
