Tom Lodemore - what can I say......

In January 2007 I lost a very special friend, Tom Lodemore, to SUDEP (Sudden Death in Epilepsy).  Tom was just 27 when he passed away.  He had recently joined the police force and had so much to live for.

Tom was such a wonderful person, its difficult to put into words just how amazing he really was.  I wouldn't be able to do him the justice he deserves.  However what I can confidently say is that loosing Tom has left a huge void in so many lives.  There's not a day that goes by that his family and friends dont think about him.  We all miss him greatly.

SUDEP claims the lives of 3 people everyday.  However the risks associated with epilepsy are rarely communicated to individuals when they are diagnosed with the condition.  Until Tom passed away both myself and his family were unaware of the real risks of living with epilepsy.  Epilepsy Bereaved is trying to raise the awareness whilst offering support to anyone who looses someone through epilepsy.

In support of the charity I have set myself the challenge of Cimbing Mount Kilimanjaro in June 2010, in the hope of raising awareness and money for Epilepsy Bereaved.  The itinery of the Climb is shown below.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Itinery;-

12th June 2010  - Transfer to the town of Moshi, where we are briefed on the climb

13th June 2010  - 5-6 hours trekking through the humid rainforest.

14th June 2010  - 6-7 hours trekking, steep ascent through heather and moorland to the Shira Plateau

15th June 2010  - 6-7 hours trekking to the Lava Tower and then descend through ravines

16th June 2010  - 6-7 hours climbing over the volcanic rock of the Barranco wall and up to the ridge over looking the south east valley.

17th June 2010  - Summit day - 12 hours trekking.  We start climbing just after midnight, completing the steepest and most demanding part of the journey by torchlight, to reach the Stella point at the crater rim.  We then make our final traverse to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on the African continent at 5896m.

We then have a tough decent back to the bottom of the mountain.

18th June 2010  - Continue our descent back through the rainforest to the Mweka Gate.

19th June 2010  - A free day to enjoy before boarding our overnight flight back to the UK.

20th June 2010  - Arrive back in the UK.
