Story

Southwest Scotland RnR is a charity which provides much needed and appreciated holidays for soldiers injured while on active service in Afghanistan and elsewhere. The men come for a week’s holiday during which they are invited to take part in a whole range of activities including water sports, carriage driving, falconry, clay pigeon shooting, archery and much more. They also enjoy good food including traditional home baking provided by volunteers. These holiday breaks for service personnel who have returned from operations give the men a chance to relax, to regain self confidence and to continue on the road to recovery. Accommodation is in a self-contained flat in a private residence situated on the shores of the Solway. What used to be the laundry has been converted into a therapy room where the soldiers can enjoy the benefits of aromatherapy and massage by a qualified practitioner who was a former nurse. What Southwest Scotland RnR also does is give members of the public the opportunity to show their personal support for the men in various ways from fundraising to offering goods and services. The RnR team books and manages the programme, relieving the military units of any administration tasks. This is where our team 'The Doonhamers' have come together as many of us are ex military and would like to show our support for these injured soldiers. As an activity we could have picked any run, any swim or any bike ride.. but that was too easy........ Welcome to Tough Mudder.... Tough Mudder is not your average lame-ass mud run or spirit-crushing ‘endurance’ road race. Our 10-12 mile obstacle courses are designed by British Special Forces to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. Forget finish times. Simply completing a Tough Mudder is a badge of honor! Obstacles include 'walk the plank, Cliff hanger, 10,000v Electric Shock therapy, Fire walker and many other crazy tests of not only strength, but mental character.
