Event: Perennial's Donard Challenge, on 24 June 2016
Our annual fundraising campaign to raise money for current and former UK horticulturists needing help, advice and support.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm part of a team which on 24 June will be hiking from Newcastle, County Down all the way up Slieve Donard, which at 2,790 ft is the highest mountain in Northern Ireland.

Why am I doing this? The reason is that we're doing it to raise money and awareness for a fantastic charity that doesn't have the profile it should in Northern Ireland.

Perennial is there to help all horticulturists and professional gardeners should they experience tough times. Those who need its services describe it as "a lifeline". Through a range of advice, support and financial assistance, it helps people not only through their immediate problems but stays with them until they are back on their feet.

When I first heard about them I thought it was simply a charity which helps horticulturists on the other side of the Irish Sea. But it turns out they are just as much a charity for horticulturists in Northern Ireland as they are for everywhere else in the UK.

So we're going to do our bit by trekking up Slieve Donard and doing what we can to ensure all professional gardeners and horticulturists in Northern Ireland know that Perennial is there for them should they need it in the future.

Any donations or sponsorship to our event will be hugely appreciated, and they will make a massive difference. Thank you.
