Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Mike Scott and I'm a 55 years old  Consultant Colo-Rectal surgeon working for the St Helens and Knowsley Trust in Merseyside.

A large part of my job involves treating patients with bowel cancer. Whilst we cure many of our patients, some ultimately succumb to their disease. It never fails to amaze me how my patients deal with their diagnosis and treatment and I can only hope that if and when I am placed in a similar situation I can cope in such a noble and proud fashion.

Macmillan Cancer Support plays an essential part in helping my patients, and I feel that anything I can do to support their cause would be scant return for what they have done to help my patients and me over the years.

With the help of Macmillan Cancer Support I intend to walk the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (in Peru) in May 2011. This is something that I have wanted to do for many years and this seems a great way to achieve my ambition.

To those of you who have questioned my sanity on taking on this walk, or to the others who have suggested that it represents a major "midlife crisis" I can only hope that I shall allay your worries and achieve both my aims: 1) to enjoy (and survive) the whole experience and 2) to raise an inordinate amount of money for Macmillan Cancer support.

(As well as raising money for the charity imagine what the training and walk will do for my middle-aged waistline!!!)

So I ask you to dig deep and donate what you feel you can spare as I would really like to achieve my target of £10,000. Remember no amount is too small ( nor too big ha-ha! )

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
