Story

Alright. Thanks for visiting our JustGiving page.

Jacquie, Loll and Frey are running the London Marathon this April. We have each pledged to raise £1500 and we are fundraising for ‘Headway’, the brain injuries association.

Having recently passed his final medical exams with honours to qualify as a Dr, Tom was on his elective in New Zealand, having an amazing time working at the Adidas Sports Clinic and seeing some of New Zealand's beautiful sights. Tom loved sports, having completed the London Marathon himself in 2004, and it was whilst he was trying out a new sports activity that Tom had a tragic accident, suffering serious head injuries.

We feel it is important to raise funds for Headway as it is a charity close to our hearts, since its headquarters are in the midlands and Tom would have used their services in his rehabilitation if he had survived. We also want to support Headway because it raises awareness about the prevention of brain injuries, and it would mean so much if we can help prevent other families going through what we are going through after losing Tom. Headway has also been fundamental in one of Tom's close friend's recuperation

As we said, Tom himself ran the marathon in memory of one of his closest friends, and we think it would be the perfect way to honour his memory by putting ourselves through the challenge, raising thousands for charity in his name. This isn't going to be an easy feat and Jacquie D is currently leading the way with the training. We think Tom will be so proud of us, particularly his mum, for doing this and so if you've attended/are attending our fundraising events or you simply want to sponsor us, it is all hugely appreciated. Thank you so much for supporting us and remembering Tom in this way.

Please note, we are running the marathon as part of a team of Tom's friends and family who are organising fundraising events for Headway and the ‘Meningitis Trust’, remembering Will Sheppard and continuing Tom’s dedication to the latter charity.  Any donations made through Jacquie, Loll and Frey's JustGiving page go only to Headway however.
