Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Some biker friends, wifes, Ally and myself (6 bikes and 9 people) have set ourselves a challenge to help raise funds, which will enable the Highland team to attend the Special Olympics in Bath this August. We plan to visit 27 Diageo malt distilleries in 3 days ( 8th-10th Apr)  They are spread far and wide from Brora to Skye,(ferry to) Islay on to Edinburgh and throughout Morayshire. This will be about 1000 miles! HDS has received no funding, and we hope you can help us raise as much money as possible to help get the athletes and carers to this event.

About the charity

Highland Disability Sport provides opportunities for all people throughout the Highlands with disabilities, regardless of age or ability, to participate in a range of sporting and leisure activities from grass roots through to Olympic level. People with disabilities have many life challenges, and if we can encourage them to become physically active through sports participation, then this will contribute to their physical and emotional wellbeing, increasing their confidence and feeling of self-worth. Highland Disability Sport organises sports events throughout the year, across the Highlands, for both adults and children. From these events, squads are selected to represent Highland at National championships. We also select individuals and teams to represent Highland at Special Olympics events, notably the 4 yearly National Summer Games, from where the team to represent Great Britain at the Special Olympics World Games is selected. The next Summer Games are taking place in August 2017 at Sheffield University, and Highland are hoping to send a squad of 84 athletes and 30 coaches to compete. This competition will cost Highland approximately £59,500.
