Back on the training wagon, up at 5am for a 38km run... All in the name of a good cause www.sosafrica.com and supported by www.myminx.com 34days to Two Oceans 56k ultra marathon in cape town

Updated on Feb 29th 2012 at 11:32 AM from the JustGiving API

Ran 9.5k last night, no issues, physio just gave me the all clear to crack on... Bring on the 56km two oceans in April :-) Anyone fancy joining me to run 40km Friday morning?!

Updated on Feb 27th 2012 at 9:07 AM from the JustGiving API

Pulled hamstring, haven't trained for 11days. Seeing physio now, hoping for good news. This is going to reduce my target time, it's all about being fit to finish, under 7hours... Fingers crossed

Back into training this week, preparing for those cape town hills running on a steep incline with a 12kg backpack... Ouch. Donate to SOS Africa and give a kid an education they wouldn't otherwise have. Thanks!

1 week away from the dubai marathon and I'm feeling fit and healthy, I reckon I'll finish in just over 4 hours, one step closer to the 56km ultra marathon in April!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

SOS Africa is a UK registered charity, which funds the education and care of underprivileged children from the poorest areas of Southern Africa. The charity's mission is to Empower Through Education. The charity provides sponsorship for children from the poorest areas of South Africa through their education and the care and support that these children desperately need.

Check out my website: http://runningforgood.weebly.com/index.html

For those that dont know me, I was born in the UK, my Dad is English, my Mum is from Barbados, I live in Dubai with my beautiful wife Wan (from South Africa) and our amazing little boy Ashton. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have such a fantastic family and believe in giving something back whenever you can.

I started running 2 years ago to shift a few extra pounds and ran my first half marathon (21k's) in Feb 2011, I managed to tear the cartilage in my right knee (probably due to rubbish trainers and poor preparation!). After a few months rest and several sessions at the physio, I got back in my trainers and decided I wanted set myself a challenge and run for a good cause...    to go from novice fat burner to ultra marathoner within 9 months !

I live in Dubai, so the Dubai Marathon, starting at the foot of Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world and star in the latest Mission Impossible movie), was my first choice marathon (42k); followed by the Two Oceans ultra marathon (56k).  I chose the Two Oceans in South Africa for several reasons; SA gave me my wife and my little boy, I also proposed to Wan (and she said yes!) on Table Mountain in Cape Town and we were married in Pretoria. Of course it is also a beautiful course!

There are literally thousands of great causes and charities around the world, I chose SOS Africa because they fund the education and care of underprivileged African township children, making a huge difference to their lives and the future generations of Africa.

As a volunteer run charity, no salaries are paid so you can be reassured that 100% of the monies you donate to SOS Africa will directly benefit the lives and futures of the African children that they support.

 www.sosafrica.com

A good friend of mine and aspiring entrepreneur, Mike Kellaway ( founder of www.minxbikini.com ) has also generously agreed to be my corporate sponsor and will match any funds raised for SOS Africa and donate this amount to a Breast Cancer Research charity. Cancer is something that will touch all of our lives in one way or another at some point in time, so this is another great reason to donate and support this project.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
