Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

So in a drunken moment with my friends Martin & Rich (veterans of the GNR) I was coerced into thinking a half marathon was a good idea!

So I thought if i'm going to do it then some good shall come of it and I have chosen to support Marie Curie Cancer Care as its an illness that seems to affect us all one way or another.

For those of you reading this thinking - 'that's strange, I didn't have Duncan down for a runner?' well i'm not really but I have over the last few years being do more and more in an effort to allow me to eat lots of food and beer but not end up a lard bucket! That and i really fancy the challenge!

So dig deep and support a good cause and remember it will be me in physical pain and only your wallets as I hope to exceed my target!!

Thanks

Duncan

So the big day has been and gone, the day dawned cold and rainy as i stuffed a couple of bananas down my neck and a bottle of lucazade. (breakfast of champions!)

Took the Metro from Wallsend too St. James and joined the masses feeling a little apprehensive! A supportive text from Becca helped as did meeting my mate Martin - we had a chat, did the warm up and before long the 'race' was upon us.

13.1 miles lay ahead and i didn't know what to expect but i set off at a steady pace, seemingly passing more people than passed me which was encouraging. (this included some people in costume which i'd have been ashamed to 'lose' too!)

So i plodded on mile after mile till i saw the sea and the last mile up the sea front. The atmosphere is amazing and is quite emotional and so 2hrs, 4 minutes and 14 seconds after i crossed the line i had finished my fist half marathon!

Bit achey today and the journey home was a nightmare but very pleased!

A massive thanks to everyone who has donated and encouraged me so far, for those that haven't ( i assume you didn't believe i could do it!!) there is still time ;-)

the page is open for a while yet but don't delay do it today!
