Story
Hi my name is Dylan Williams I am 13 years old & I live in Coventry. On the 28th January 2014 it will be exactly 10 years since my family were told that I was Cancer free.
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma in April 2002, I was 18 months old. I had gruelling chemotherapy, stem cell treatment and surgery. After all this I still had active cancer cells showng. My only option was then to have13-cis-retinoic acid treatment, this was new to the treatment plan and we were unsure if this would work to make the Cancer disappear. Towards the end of 2003 I still had active cancer cells.
After having my routine MIBG scan to see how the cells were reacting, by some miracle when we visited Birmingham Children’s Hospital to get the results of my latest scan on the 28th January 2004 I was told that I had no active cells. That day I started my journey into remission.
I am currently growing my hair and it has not been cut since September, I am going to do a sponsored head shave on my all clear anniversary, I want to raise money towards the new Children’s Cancer Centre Appeal for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital. This is me saying thanks to the Oncology department that have been a massive part of my life and still are. Please donate any spare money that you have, it is for a very worthwhile cause.
