Why am I doing this?

Rita is the inspiration.  Just over two years ago Rita died of a brain tumour and this led me to help set up the Brainwaves Brain Tumour Support Group  and to start running at the age of 61 for the first time since I left school.

Brainwaves is a registered charity whose principal aim is to support people affected by brain tumours, Not only  patients, but their families, carers and friends.   Brainwaves is there to help those affected overcome feelings of confusion and isolation and to empower them .  Brainwaves also aims to raise awareness of brain tumours and raise money for research and training in this Cinderella field.

Brain tumours are like thieves in the night that slowly and stealthily rob people of their soul.  The brain is the centre of our being.  It makes us who we are, it is our intellect and our personality. It defines everything we are.  Brain tumours take this away and devastate all those affected.

Brain tumours affect people of all ages.  It is the second most common cancer in children and can strike at any age.  The causes are largely not known or understood and medicine is  in its infancy in trying to find cures.  More resources are needed to help defeat this increasingly common cancer.

Why run in Montserrat?

The Volcano Half Marathon is one of the most testing in the world.  The heat, the humidity and steep mountains come together to create a tough, energy sapping challenge.  The people of Montserrat make it a unique and enjoyable experience, even if there is some suffering.

We need your help!

Please be generous and help Brainwaves to support those affected by brain tumours and fight for better treatment and care. Plus you will give me even more inspiration.
