My story

For five days Katie and Emma will be eating only porridge, beans and rice as part of Tearfund's 'rice and beans challenge.'*

We are hoping that this challenge will enable us to reflect on the social injustices which force many people to survive on so little and to understand just how much we needlessly consume (and take for granted)!

We are also fundraising to support Prospect Burma - an inspirational charity raising money to increase educational opportunity in Burma, a country whose recent political developments have been reported and celebrated around the world.

Since 1988 Burmese universities have been repeatedly closed down and many young people have no access to education. Prospect Burma provides scholarships and vocational courses to Burmese students, many of which prioritise subjects such as public health, education, the environment, human rights and technological development. Students are then able to find meaningful work and can rebuild their lives. Since their formation in 1989 Prospect Burma have helped over 1,500 Burmese students.

Prospect Burma

Charity Registration No. 802615

Prospect Burma invests in the democratic future of Burma by funding education for Burmese students who commit to return to Burma with their new found skills when possible. Aung San Suu Kyi supports us with her Nobel Prize funds, but each year we turn hundreds of students away due to a lack of funds.
