WellChild is the national charity for seriously ill children. Thousands of children live with complex medical needs. Many spend months, or years in hospital because there is no support enabling them to leave. We exist to give these children the best chance to thrive: at home, with their families.

Story

I've been part of numerous events to raise money for charity, but this will be my first time taking part in an off-shore sailing race. For the seasoned sailor, the Rolex Fastnet race is an opportunity to take on one of the biggest offshore classics in the world of yacht racing. For an ocean-rower without any sailing experience like myself, this 608nm will be a challenge of huge proportions.

Thankfully, I should in safe hands, under the command of RORC Commodore Andrew McIrvine, and his experienced crew in his Beneteau First 40, La Réponse

http://fastnet.rorc.org/news-2011/press-releases-2011/extreme-ocean-rower-exchanges-oars-for-sails.html

Being a children's nurse, nominating WellChild was easy, especially as it gives me the opportunity to show my admiration and respect for WellChild 2011 Nurse of the Year (and my friend) Karen Higgins!

So please support WellChild with whatever pennies you may have to spare, it will encourage me along on the waves. And if not for me, sponsor the poor men that will have to tolerate and teach me for the whole experience. To Andrew, Jason, Jonathan, James, Chris, Geoff, Paul, Quint, Simon and Adam - THANK YOU (and good luck!!)

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you!
