At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you. Visit www.younglivesvscancer.org.uk

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My family has been completely rocked since last October.  My nephew Benjamin is going through the hardest battle of his life: leukemia complicated by paralysis brought on by a tumor growing on his spine.  Please read Clare's page for the full story.

Clare and I are doing what we can to help my sister and her family but it will never be enough.  Most of the time, we feel very helpless as Ben deals with the daily struggles of chemothereapy complicated by his paralysis.  As you will see from Clare's page, CLIC Sargent have been an enormous help to my sister's family.  They will continue to help in the years ahead.  So the deal was that Clare would do all of the work and I would go for a cycle around London at nighttime.

BUT, due to Clare's ability (or lack thereof) in the skiing department (she fell over on a blue run just over a week ago and had to be stretchered off the mountain), I now find myself taking on a half marathon having managed to not die when running 10K a few times.....

This half happens in Reading on 2nd March...so with notice of just 1 week and no time to train, please bung in some extra dosh and chuckle as you think about me collapsing somewhere on the course (maybe at the finish if I am lucky).

Well that's the first part done - my phone said that my time was 59:22 - 1 second ahead of the world record, but for some reason my official time was 2:19:07. I will speak with the stewards to find out about the discrepancy, but suffice to say that I am still alive, I haven't had a heart attack and I have already consumed my first post race beer. A big well done to the girls as well - Alison Hall, Sarah Wells and Clare Carter.

So two more events to go....100K bike ride and the Newbury Iron Man (some people call it a sprint Triathalon), but to me it is a full blown Iron Man...

If you haven't sponsored me yet please do - I could use the infamous words of Bob Geldof "just give me your ***** money"

Thank you

Ed
