I had the pleasure of meeting Benny Boy along with his parents Nigel, Su and older brother Luke, before and after his cancer diagnosis. Each time I met Benny he lit up the room with his warmth and enthusiasm for whatever he was doing. He was a great scrabble player ! as I found out on a few occasions.
Benny Boy very sadly lost his battle against cancer on 23rd February 2012.
As a parent myself, I cannot imagine the pain felt at the loss of a much loved child. Benny Boy would have been 21 in March 2023
I am 'completing' the 106km IOW Challenge on 29/30th April 2023 in memory of Benny Boy and to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer. This charity provided Nigel, Su and Luke with amazing support during times none of us can prepare for.
Young Lives vs Cancer help so many families with support and any donations could help a parent rest more easily as they go to bed in one of Young Lives Homes from Home, safe in the knowledge they are only moments from their child's bedside or could help a family to make sense of a life-altering diagnosis with support from a social worker .
