Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
James and John are father and son. John and his wife Sylvia have fostered James for 24 years. James has learning disabilities and has been blind since birth. John has encouraged James to run and they have run over 40 marathons worldwide. On October 14th James and John are running the Liverpool Marathon in aid of L'Arche Liverpool.
Not only is James a good runner he loves to weave beautiful cloth in the L'Arche Liverpool craft rooms on Lockerby Road in Kensington.
L'Arche Liverpool is a community of people with and without learning disabilities. L'Arche celebrates the unique value of every person and promotes the gifts of people with learning disabilities.
L'Arche Liverpool is a community founded on Christian values and welcomes people of all faiths and none. Experience has shown us that people with learning disabilities flourish when we take time to nurture their spiritual needs. We also know that people who come to work in L'Arche are able to offer more mature, long lasting and developed support, when we support their personal development.
It is this attention to the needs of the whole person, which we meet through a series of retreats, training, formation, pilgrimage, spiritual direction and L'Arche community activities, that leads to the unique atmosphere found in L'Arche Communities.
Why we need your support... In this time of economic uncertainty, these extremely important activities, which we believe make an invaluable contribution to the quality of relationships and support in L'Arche, are under threat. The combined effect of funding cuts and increasd costs may mean we may no longer be able to afford this investment in people.
Please support us to invest in the next generation of people who come to live and work in L'Arche. Help them continue to develop the vision first realised by Jean Vanier, of a world where everyone can exercise their gifts.
So please dig deep and donate now.
