Story
Tessa and Wayne Blything founded The Catering, Hospitality & Education Foundation (C.H.E.F) to help prevent and reduce both poverty and financial hardship of those living in Lesotho in 2021.
The country is surrounded by South Africa and set in the Drakensburg Mountains, Lesotho is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Its lowest point is 1,400m above sea level, and many villages are only reachable by horseback. Yet Lesotho’s people — known as ‘Basotho’ whose language is ‘Sesotho’ — remain plagued by unemployment, inequality, and poverty
With their first hand experience of living and working in Lesotho, they were able to see just how beautiful this small African, landlocked county is, and just how hardworking and eager the Basotho people are to work, and to better themselves. Unfortunately, due to multiple factors, 1 in 4 people are living in poverty whilst many of those not classified as living in poverty still suffer from financial hardship due to low income. This has only got worse over the past couple of years as the country has been in and out of lockdown due to Covid-19, and many people who worked so hard to get themselves out of poverty are now being thrown back into it.
This is an incredible charity, and needs our much needed support! I therefore plan to undertake the London to Brighton Cycle Ride on the 11th September 2022 and by sponsoring me you will be helping us to make a difference on the ground in Lesotho by supporting people into work or education and giving them an opportunity to have an acceptable standard of living, which is something many of us take for granted.
Thank you so much!
