Palace to Palace 2018 · 7 October 2018 ·

The King’s Trust supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to get their lives on track. Many of the young people we support are in or leaving care, have been in trouble with the law, or they are facing challenges such as homelessness or mental health issues.

Story

As some of you may have had the misfortune of witnessing over the last few years, I have prematurely evolved into a MAMIL (i.e. a middle-aged man in lycra). This drastic wardrobe transition has stemmed from the development of a strong passion for cycling, a hobby that has given me some memorable experiences in different places.

With very little excuse usually needed to hop into the saddle, I thought it would be rude not to take on a cycling-related challenge to raise money for a good cause. I have subsequently been lucky enough to secure a spot as part of Team Accenture to ride the Palace to Palace Ultra 2018 in support of the Prince's Trust.

For those of you that aren't aware, the Prince's Trust is a charity that works hard to give disadvantaged young people opportunities to fulfil their potential, whether through skills programmes, mentoring or support for budding entrepreneurs. As someone who feels very fortunate to have been presented with many amazing opportunities during my youth, I am eager to contribute towards making sure that other young people get the same access and support to carve their own paths in life.

The ride itself is a 90-mile sportive following a route from Buckingham Palace to Windsor Castle via the Surrey Hills. It will be taking place on Sunday 7 October (exactly a month today), and I imagine my legs will be on fire for a number of days after it.

So, if you feel the same admiration for the endeavours of the Prince's Trust, or the thought of me awkwardly waddling around London fills you with amusement, I would be absolutely delighted if you could support me in reaching the fundraising goal of £240 ahead of the ride next month!
