I am competing in the Great North Run this year on behalf of my family, relatives and friends who are diabetic. 

Diabetes is a condition that can be fatal if not controlled properly.  It is amazing how much of an impact diabetes has on your life.  From remembering to take your insulin to testing your blood sugar levels several times a day, everyday, for the rest of your life, it can make normal living quite difficult. 

I hope, that by competing in this year's Great North Run, is that I can raise awareness and help towards the better understanding of this condition.  A cure and a better life for those with diabetes may not be far away.
