Story
Dear friends,
I would like to ask for your support again for my upcoming trek in Greenland in August 2018 to raise money for a very worthwhile cause called WaterAid, a Canadian charity.
As many of you know, I have fundraised for WaterAid twice before trekking in the Sahara Desert in 2013 and in the Gobi Desert in 2016. These long treks over various terrains of sands and mountains by day and sleeping in tents with basic facilities by night were taxing on both body and mind (yes taxing). I considered myself lucky to have come back in good shape.
So why am I signing up for the third time?
I am signing up because the more I know about WaterAid's work, the more I feel the urgency to provide clean water and basic sanitation to communities in need. Every single day, I turn on the tap when I get up but there are women and children somewhere who have to walk far away to collect water for their family (see link below for an article written by Adam Van Koeverden (Canadian Olympic champion) about his trip to Madagascar.)
Together we can change this.
For me, this upcoming trek to Greenland is challenging due to the requirement to carry our own pack of 25 lb (with tents, sleeping bag and stove) over 5 days (with no back-up transportation, not even a camel). For those who don’t know, this would be almost ¼ of my body weight. Imagine a turtle carrying a house ! Certainly beyond my ability now but over the coming months, I will do my utmost to go prepared.
My ask is for your support and donation to WaterAid.
All donations go directly to WaterAid. All expenses and time off for the trip are entirely at my own cost.
