Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My great-nephew Ronnie Campbell has been receivng treatment for a brain stem tumour since July 2012. He had an operation first of all at Kings hospital in London to remove the tumour, but it grew back & it was decided that the best course of treatment was proton therapy. This is only available in America, although we are due to get 2 centres in the UK by 2017.
He returned from Florida having finished his treatment & we now could have another year of waiting before he has an MRI scan to determine whether the treatment has been successful or not. We just had news today (07/08/2013) that his tumour is stable. He will continue to have scans every 3 months for the next year at least. The proton treatment can stay in the body for up to 18 months. That can have an impact on scan results. So we still have to be patient.
Clic Sargent have been enormously helpful with ensuring that Ronnie doesn't feel isolated on returning to school, having gone into his school & talked to his peer group about his condition. They have offered social, financial & emotional support.
