Action Against Hunger is a global humanitarian organisation that takes decisive action against the causes and effects of hunger. We save the lives of malnourished children. We ensure everyone can access clean water, food, training and healthcare. We enable entire communities to be free from hunger.

Story

A child under the age of five dies from hunger related causes every 13 seconds.... It is the largest killer of children in the world but is also one of the most preventable. It's probably been 13 seconds since you started reading this...

For most of us 3 meals a day (plus if you're like me the occasional chocolate and dessert!) is the norm, but the harsh reality is that there are 925 million people in the world who are hungry. Whilst we are choosing what takeaway to have they are choosing what time of the day to have their one and only meal. 1 in 5 people live on less than £1.25 per day.

Action against hunger are the official charity for Bibendum, my employers. They have a beautiful vision- 'A world without hunger. A world in which children and adults have sufficient food and water, equitable access to the resources that sustain life, and are able to attain these with dignity'. They really are doing their best to make this vision a reality by providing farmers with tools so they can grow and harvest their crops, treating severely malnourished children and providing access to clean water for those that simply didn't have it before, amongst other things.

In April I will be running the London marathon for Action Against Hunger. So running 26.2 (the .2 is important!) isn't going to solve world hunger but my hope is that by me doing this I will be able to raise some money which in turn will go towards making someone that little bit less hungry for a day, a week, a month or hopefully even longer.  Those that know me well, will be well aware I'm not a distance runner- these little legs were not made for long distances- however you'll also know how competitive I am and therefore how seriously I am taking the training and preparations. Along with all the distances I will be putting in for training, I will also be running a half marathon at the start of February.

On top of all the training I will be having an alcohol free January (apart from one night due to the company party!) March and April. Anyone who knows me well will know that I enjoy a good ol’ knees up so this will be a tough one too. This will be mwas all the harder as I work for a wine company!

I will also be taking part in the Trekfest Peaks Challenge on the 6th-7th July where I will be trekking 54miles across the Peaks District National Park. (http://www.trekfest.org.uk/)

If all of the above wasn’t enough, at the beginning of May I will be holding a 2013 minute famine. That's over 33.5 hours with no food. Not even a little peanut. (I will be allowed water for safety reasons).

I would massively appreciate if you feel the cause is worthy that you donate- no matter how much! All I'm asking is that you give the takeaway a miss this weekend, or avoid the unnecessary snacks and send the money you're saving my way! It really will help millions of people and also give me that added motivation.

Thanks,
