Elina's Channel Relay for Diabetes UK 2010

Lin Telf is raising money for Diabetes UK

Participants: Elina Telford with 5 more people who will be on the boat! :D I think everyone is using a separate page, as we need to raise at least £950 each. At the moment that seems a lot, but kinda guess its not in the grand scheme of things!

So Why am I Doing It?

I am doing this crazy swim for several reasons; namely Aunty Janet, who sadly this year (2009) lost her fight against the consequences of diabetes; she created inspirational and fun writings that focused outside of her diabetes.  I have met many people who have the condition.  Ultimately many of us are capable of developing it, but am reassured and inspired by both people who manage and miss-manage it, after all diabetes is not the be-all and end-all!

I guess I am doing this as it is important, as with any diagnosis that we remember we are all more than a label.  Janet was a funny soul (I am still to do her murder mystery!), she reassured me about my first ever flight at the age of 23(?) to got to Creative Escapes who reminded me it was ok to succeed.  I didn't have much contact with Janet, but the moments I did share with her were strong and inspirational.

From a selfish point of view, I am doing this to regain some strength.  Completing my Gold Duke of  Edinburgh changed my life and I want to re-embrace that moment of success, team achievement and to be honest happiness!

And finally this is for Owen [Pete's son] and Aunty Llin who have helped me see that it is ok to ask for comfort.
