Hi,
Many of you will know that I've spent the last 11 years battling a pretty horrible illness, but what you probably didn't know was the name of that illness, or what it meant for me. The truth is that in spite of everything you read above even I didn't know what it was, and nor did my doctors, until a few months ago. Because of this lack of knowledge I almost died, which isn't surprising really. I mean what chance did I really have? ...do I still have?
So I have committed to do a sponsored (by all you kind people!) Solo 10,000 ft Accelerated Freefall from a Plane in support of Endometriosis UK's 'Bring It Down' Campaign; which fights to bring down the unacceptably long average diagnosis time of 8 years. I have chosen to take the plunge Solo instead of tandem, as symbolic of the intense loneliness sufferers of this illness often feel because of a simple lack of awareness in both the public & medical domain... nobody is there to safely guide us back on our feet when we are scared, undiagnosed and forced to face an unknown future with regards to our pain, our careers, our relationships and our ability to have & support families of our own.
I hope I can count on all of your support - friends, kind strangers, fellow endo-sisters, and those of you who know someone you love is silently searching for the strength to fight this disease - in helping to ensure that in the future what I as a young girl & women went through, will be a rareity, and no longer the shockingly common anomily that it is known to be by mostly only those people directly affected by this life halting disease.
