We work to ensure the public interest in sound science and evidence is recognised in public life and policy making. A small team working with thousands of supporters, from leading researchers to community groups, we focus on difficult issues where evidence is neglected, politicised or misleading.

Story

Thankee muchly for visiting our JustGiving page.

We're planning to do the Sportive pedal for scotland event this september - 100 miles (and pounds) of bum breaking action. Ups, downs, flat tyres... and hopefully lots of munchies...

This all started because I cycled from Edinburgh to Glasgow along the canal a couple of years ago with some crazy friends who were training for a cycle to the shetlands. I was on my wee hybrid bike, Bertie, with mountain bike tyres. It took about 4 hours, and it nearly killed me. Particularly when we decided to race a ned on his mobile phone. Since then I've ended up dragging some friends along the coast in Fife, 75 miles to St. Andrews. And Sam has got a very shiny bike.

We were thinking about maybe doing this event in a fairly non-committal way just because it was an incremental challenge (50, 75, 100) until I mentioned it to Julia Wilson of sense about science. She is fundraising for a new 'Report Dodgy Science' campaign. This aims to challenge misleading 'scientific' claims that give real scientists a bad name. Checkout their website, especially the campaign against homeopathy on the NHS and in developing countries- of course it's cheaper, there's no proof!
