We’re here for the cure. Cure Parkinson’s is working with urgency to find new treatments to slow, stop and reverse Parkinson’s.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For six days at the end of August, together with the two Judiths and my friend Carole, Chris and I will be joining Bryn Williams and many others walking some 82 miles to raise funds for Cure Parkinson's Trust.  The Trust is patient led and devoted to finding a cure for this degenerative neurological condition.

In 2008, when I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, I remember feeling shocked, not because I finally had a diagnosis, but because I simply didn't feel old enough for this illness.  I was" just" 57 at the time and I have to admit that I now feel embarrassed by this reaction because, as I discovered, there are some 6,000 people under 40 in the UK who have Parkinson's disease.  It was my G P who provided this reality check and my subsequent search for information found Bryn's Blog and his really useful website.  It suddenly became important to do something positive and so we signed up for the walk.

Chris and I have spent many holidays walking but this is a very long walk.  Whether we like it or not we are older and not as fit as we once were.  It is a huge challenge so please give generously to encourage us to complete the trek.  We will be walking as a team and intend to complete the distance but as some of us have medical conditions it is possible that despite all our training, enthusiasm and competitive spirit one or other of us may not manage all the miles, and we hope you will understand if this happens.
