NSPCC Milton Keynes Half Marathon · 7 July 2012

Children in Distress is a children’s charity based in Yorkshire focused on enabling young people in the UK and Romania to thrive. With over 35 years of experience working with children in Romania, we have recently extended our focus and impact to the UK.

Story

Thanks for visiting my page. I completed the Milton Keynes Half Marathon in 2 hrs 16 mins and am delighted to have exceeded the target I set myself!  Thank you to everyone for your generosity and kind comments and thoughts.   It is all greatly appreciated. You can trust Children in Distress to use every penny wisely to improve the lives of these courageous children.

When my father passed away in July 2011 I found photos and newsletters from the Children in Distress charity about a boy he had mentioned sponsoring in St Margaret’s Hospice in Bucharest.  When I approached the charity to continue the sponsorship, I discovered there were opportunities to travel to Romania with other supporters to visit the projects run by Children in Distress. I jumped at the chance, though I was apprehensive what I would find in the orphanages and hospices.

Visiting Bucharest with Children in Distress and seeing first hand their projects for profoundly disabled children, Roma (gipsy) children and young adults with HIV/AIDS opened my eyes to the suffering and distress brought about by inadequate state care, ignorance and prejudice.  The compassionate and dedicated people who work for Children in Distress in Romania, supported by the charity based in UK, showed me how much of a difference can be made working on a shoestring budget but with large amounts of love and determination.  This small charity deserves our financial and practical support. Turning to long distance running that I have enjoyed for many years I decided to begin by running the NSPCC Milton Keynes Half Marathon on 7 July for Children in Distress.

Please donate and support me. Thanks very much.
