Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've created the Kidderminster to Iona static bike challenge to help raise money to fund treatment for babies affected by severe flat head syndrome (plagiocephaly and brachycephaly).
As some of you know, our little girl - Iona - is currently being treated for flat head syndrome with a specially-made helmet that has guided her skull to round out as it grows.
The NHS does not fund treatment - even for severe cases that will not self-correct - and each helmet costs nearly £2,000 to provide!
We were lucky to be in a position to fund this for her but many, many families are not and need to access funds quickly to allow the time-limited treatment to start while they raise the rest of the money (deposit to start treatment is £500). This is where Headstart 4 Babies can help.
As some of you will also know, I have royally messed up my knee which means the only cardio exercise I can do while I wait for surgery one is cycling.
I HATE cycling. With a passion. I have no pretensions to being part of Team Sky or joining the MAMIL brigade. The whole lark is just dull and tedious.
So, stuck on the bl**dy static bike as I am for the foreseeable future, I may as well do something to make it all worthwhile...
The distance from Kidderminster to Iona (the island, not my daughter) is 320 miles. It takes me roughly 30 minutes of mind-numbing boredom to cycle 10 miles and I have 8 weeks before surgery to cover the distance. That's 40 miles a week.
If I know that each pedal rotation is making a positive difference, that will make it a little more bearable. So, if you feel like making a donation - however big or small - to help maintain my motivation and, more importantly, raise funds to help other babies like Iona access the treatment they need, that would be absolutely brilliant. Thank you xx
