Our life-changing research can fight diseases, tackle global challenges and change society. At Nottingham, students from all backgrounds can achieve extraordinary things, in and out of the classroom. But talent needs a catalyst. You can shape the future and help make the incredible happen, every day

Story

Hi, I'm a second year Architecture student at the University of Nottingham completing my Part 1 RIBA Course.

For the upcoming semester; from now until December, we as groups of 5 will design a nursery school. We will then present our designs to a panel and one of these will be 'chosen'. The chosen design will then be built during the 4 week Easter break in Mokomotsie, a rural village in Limpopo, South Africa by ourselves.

In last years project, in a different village in Limpopo, 90% of the £1000 was spent on materials, construction, tools, subcontracted works and project logistics associated with daily transport to the site. . We as students provide another £1000 to pay for our flights and accommodation close by.

Primary education is key in raising aspirations and providing the children with the best opportunities possible for later life. Education should be available for all to achieve this. We aim to, in some way, bridge the gap between the extreme difference in our education compared to theirs.

Education in the region is hard to access. Your donation will help provide a bright, clean and safe environment for teaching basic skills, play and music to village children from under one year to seven years old. It will also provide employment for the local women who teach in the créche, cook meals, wipe noses and sing and play with the kids. We aim to teach vital skills such as 'how to make your own bricks' which the villagers can then transfer to create other buildings in the village.

Any money that you can spare will really make a difference.

Thank you!
